  • Club de Golf (Son Servera)
  • Canyamel Golf Course (Capdepera)
  • Capdepera Golf (Capedpera)
  • Pula Golf (Son Servera)
  • Alcanada Golf Club

The peak period for golf in Mallorca is usually between the months of April-May & October-November when golfers like to carry on their season and the temperatures here are still reasonably warm. At the peak of tourist season, July-Aug, the heat can be a bit much and as a result, the courses will be a little quieter.

Autumn sees several challenges for Mallorcan greenkeepers due to having to use recycled wastewater for irrigation during summer (which contains high levels of salt that can damage the grass), irregular rainfall patterns, and the problem of having to switch between warm and cool-season grass strains. Therefore expectations should be adjusted for course conditions and fees that have to accommodate for such upkeep. The cooler winter months will undoubtedly have you sharing the courses with the locals so expect them to be a bit busier at these times.

Club de Golf (Son Servera)

If you fancy a round while in Cala Bona, nearby Costa dels Pins has a wonderful course with stunning views that should definitely be on your to-do list. The club was founded in 1957, originally only 9 holes, it is one of the best-rated courses about and offers a good challenge for experienced and novice players alike.

Son Servera is the only social golf club in Mallorca, so the management is in the hands of the members. There is a mixture of nationalities, which gives the Club a cosmopolitan character. Having recently opened up to green fee players it has a warm and friendly feel, lacking the stuffiness of some courses.

It boasts the most famous and successful golf school in the Balearic islands and encourages its juniors to partake in competitions along with the senior members. This coupled with the numerous social get-togethers really cultivates that family atmosphere.

The club’s motto, “Ludus et Amici- tia” (Sport and Friendship), defines the club’s way of thinking and was especially evident after the terrible effects of the great storm of November 2001, which devastated the lush pine woods of the club’s grounds and decimated large parts of the course itself. The hard-working efforts of members, employees, and locals all contributed to restoring the grounds to a playable condition some 6 weeks later.

As the second oldest club on the island, it was finally expanded to an 18-hole course in 2012 and is a scenic parkland golf course affording impressive views of the mountains and the bay of Cala Millor. It occupies a slope of Mallorca’s Sierra de Llevant mountains and all parts of the course give fine views of the pine-clad mountains. The course is also surrounded by the Sant Jordi Mountains and Costa de Los Pinos. The club is very keen to preserve natural resources and it now operates with regenerated water from the Son Jordi Reservoir and has a charging station for electric vehicles on site.

The course at Son Servera is a subtly undulating parkland course with generous fairways and cultivated rough that should prevent too much hunting should a shot stray from the desired path.  Any wayward shot will probably find itself meeting with the many evergreen oak, pine, olive, carob, and palm trees that dot the course blocking the way to the pin. Of all the course holes, 3 to 7 are of particular note. These holes are known as the pine trap.

An interesting in-game feature takes place here and slender tree-lined fairways plunge into the scenery and wind between the lakes and pines making this “trap” the trickiest test on the course. Narrow fairways mean that you need to tee off accurately and keep shots straight as an arrow.

The course is reasonably bunkered throughout and on the 8th and 9th, the course plays right by the Mediterranean Sea which provides a perfect backdrop. There is water featured on six different holes, one of these, Hole 14, is local Mallorcan and tennis legend Rafa Nadal’s favourite at Son Servera.

After the round, the Club House restaurant Costa de Los Pinos offers a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy some great local gastronomy with excellent views of the 18th hole and the sea. The clubhouse interior is quite modern after being recently upgraded, and there is a nice terrace overlooking the putting green, practice facilities, and the green of the 18th hole. They have well-equipped buggies and a good driving range which is en route to the tee of the first hole.

The 6,050m (6,616 yards) par-72 course always has a range of shots on offer providing many incentives for both accomplished and more modest players. Beautiful, challenging, fair, and enjoyable, Club de Golf Son Servera offers something for everyone. We hope you give it a visit next time you have the chance. Check out their website to keep up-to-date with what’s happening there.

Canyamel Golf Course (Capdepera, Mallorca)

Another beautiful course that should be tackled is the 18-hole (par 73) course in Canyamel which is located further up the east coast. Designed by Jose Cancendo back in 1988, it is another course that is designed with varying player ability and natural landscape at the forefront. It seems to preserve the established environment and fits in perfectly the surrounding topography. Keep an eye out for the Mediterranean turtles which can sometimes be spotted while having a round.

The course plays two different halves to keep you always strategizing your next move. The first nine holes provide great sea views over the rolling ground around the clubhouse which can provide some problems. Holes 2 and 9 (both par 4) are ones to watch with the signature 9th having a bizarre hazard in the shape of a small stone holding located roughly 200 yards in the middle of the fairway. Could you hit past it? At the 4th hole you can also gain a wonderful view of the Mediterranean Sea and also a glimpse of the nearby island of Minorca.

The back 9 offers flatter and longer holes than the first 9 and this again adds to the enjoyment and challenge of this course. Alongside the small river Estany (also called the Torrent de Canyamel), these holes stretch away and ones to note might be the 14th with the tall trees that appear just before the green and the 18th that has a multi-tiered (three-pianos) green which can be seen by the Club House terrace.

The Club House itself was revamped in 2013 and boasts an elegant and slick feel. Fresh authentic dishes, along with tapas and paellas, and wine can be had on the terrace overlooking the 18th. The boutique has all the golf accessories and products that any golfer could require, all top brands included. Perfect for picking up a souvenir from your trip there!

They also have decent practice facilities including a 260 yards driving range. Along with a small chipping area and practice green, these can help brush up on some drills and techniques to keep your game on point.

Capdepera Golf Course (Capdepera, Mallorca)

This course is situated between the market town of Arta and the village of Capdepera. It is well regarded as another example of how to marry local beauty and great course design. American golf architect Dan Maples has created a delightful course that runs through the valley of an old almond plantation which then carries up into the hills of the Llevant mountains which dominate the local landscape.

Opened in 1989 this is a gorgeous 18 hole, par 72 course that starts off simple but ramps up in difficulty. A great mix of expansive and narrow fairways, open greens, and 6 lakes really add to the charm of this course and the test it offers to all is ideal.

The course at Capdepera’s is actually split into two definitive sections with regards to the layout. This happens due to the first 12 holes being set up in that old plantation valley that offers up indentations around the rough at some holes and smalls ponds scattered throughout which then changes up as you hit the remaining 6 holes. It’s these holes that are more complex as they delve into the Llevant hills, providing a different approach due to the narrow fairways and differing elevations. Club selection is key at this point and stray shots could prove costly.

The 15th hole here is undoubtedly stunning, taking in a glorious view out to the coast. From the hillside tee off this par 3 is not a hole you will soon forget and it is easy to see why it has been voted most scenic in Mallorca numerous times. Hold onto this pleasant feeling as you tackle the often challenging 18th!

The professional and friendly staff can be found throughout and the Roca Viva restaurant serves a great variety of Mediterranean and Mallorquin style dishes. The summer BBQs (normally on Thursdays) is a big hit, with live music to enhance your evening’s festivities.

3 short game practice areas and a driving range are on hand to hone your expertise should the need arise. Lessons are also available from the multilingual instructors and cater to all levels.

Where can I find Capdepera Golf?

There is plenty to like about this par 72, parkland course, nestled in the valley. Be sure to soak up the view on the 15th and don’t forget your sunblock. Visit the website to check out what else is on offer at this tranquil haven in the sun.

Pula Golf Course (Son Servera, Mallorca)

Next on our list of nearby courses is Pula Golf. Near the town of Son Servera is Pula Golf Resort, a complex which combines golf, cuisine, and a hotel. Located in an old manor house that dates from the late 1500s these premises contain wonderful spa facilities, an excellent restaurant, and cozy suites to accommodate all your holiday requirements. Everything is located in a pleasing, extraordinary, and exclusive background which can feel at times unlike anything else. No need to load the clubs in the car if you stay at this resort!

Pula Golf was launched in 1995 but then carefully redesigned circa 2005 by famous Spanish golfer José María Olazábal. He helped showcase this course to the world where it featured as part of the European PGA tour as the scene for the Mallorca Classic. The tweaks were delicate enough to preserve the existing locale and improve on the holes that need that little extra treatment to make them more interesting. 2010 also saw some more remedial works taking place on the fairway of the 3rd and 17th.In addition, the green at the 17th was also push back and 6 extra bunkers were fitted in around the fairway.

It has been transformed into a large and neat golf course with fast greens and sweeping fairways. This par 72 of 6.246m has 14 holes of the 18 that give view to the green from the tee position and the remaining 4, will have the green in sight from your second shot. This can sometimes fool you into thinking that you’ll have an easy round of it but beware, it can be a demanding course.

Pula Golf course is very challenging with a great variation on all the holes. Water features including two lakes and a river influence the approach on several holes. The 11th, a par-3 of 220 yards, can be the most challenging of the course, and the longest holes are 8th and the 13th at around 600 yards. Not only can the course layout be against you here, but the weather can also often play a part in determining a good score for the day. High winds can have a huge impact on making par on this beautiful course. Golfers can also admire the archaeological remains of the Talaiotic era within Pula Golf Resort, which have been well preserved in this area of well-conserved natural beauty.

Pula Golf has a large driving range split over two levels, one of them is sheltered and has 2 putting greens. Short game can be improved upon with the pitching greens and chipping area to practice all varieties of shots around the greens. The hospitality here is great, PGA professionals operate within their golf Academy offering private classes and personal training plans if you feel the need and have the time.

Where can I find Pula Golf Resort?

You can access the resort just left off the Ma-4040. Head north, slightly past the resort, then go left taking the Ma-404. On the roundabout take 2nd left and the resort will be further down the road on your right.

What about social media?

With high-quality greens and some tricky hazards, this course has all the makings of a golfer’s paradise. With typically stunning Mallorcan scenery and opulent resort, it should definitely be worthy of your attention while visiting the island. Discover why the Pros love it and check out their website for information and bookings

Alcanada Golf Club (Alcudia, Mallorca)

Last but by no means least, on our list is the Alcanada Golf Club or Clube de Golf Alcanada. Located in the north of the island, past the busy town of Alcudia, tucked into the bay is this splendid course. Spectacular sea views and distant lighthouse provide the perfect backdrop to an enchanting challenge that tests all whatever their handicap. With this in mind, the max Handicap is 33 for men and 35 for ladies. Handicap certificates MUST be shown at reception upon arrival.

This relatively young course was first opened in 2003 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr with some financial help from the Porsche family. He has been developing over 250 courses worldwide since the 1960s and this talent is well displayed here. Something of a family tradition I guess as both his father and brother also have a passion for golf architecture. The club also had a recent renovation in early 2019 to upgrade irrigation, replace bunker sand, repair the cart paths and redevelop some putting surfaces.

This 18 hole, par 72 stretches over 7100 yards past pine and olive groves through wonderful Mallorcan terrain. The course design has a varied layout with lots of elevated tees, ravines, and small valleys set against the wonderful coastal views.

Nothing feels artificial here and right from the first tee you can feel the testing nature of the course with a tricky blind lay-up on the par 5. A small stream then comes into play before reaching the green. Of the front nine, holes 5 & 8 can stand out due to their length making the 8th a tough par 4. The back nine starts to feel a little tight due to the layout but opens up a bit later. Another big par 4 awaits on the 16th with numerous bunkers making an appearance. The final hole also has a few large sand traps dotted around the last hundred yards to the green and rounds off a teasing hole quite nicely. With quick greens and some wide fairways with light rough, you should not be disappointed here… unless you hit a few duff shots.

The 7th hole is where you’ll be really impressed with your visit here. A video camera is set up to record your shot from the tee, which looks out towards the lighthouse on the small islet that the course is named after. Using the barcode on your scorecard activates a 90-second recording of your shot, which can then be viewed in the pro shop and emailed to whoever you wish. So make it a good one!

On-site facilities include a well-stocked pro shop with loads of renowned brands and products such as tees, balls, clubs, hats, and shoes. Of note is the short game practice area which includes the German national golf team amongst its many visitors and a winter training ground. The multi-lingual staff are always eager to help and very attentive to any visitor’s needs. This adds to the charm and quality of the club and exemplifies the feel of the place. From the terrace, you can enjoy delicious Mediterranean dishes with the Casa Gallega providing some wonderful menu options while enjoying charming views of the bay of Alcudia and sections of the course below. Summer BBQs run from May to September with lots of the finest and freshest cuts of local meats.
